2016, historic good year for Dutch cutter fisheries: highest result in 50 years

20/04/2018

For the Dutch sea fishing sector 2016 is financially a positive year. In contrast to these good results, it was a bad year for the mussel sector. The net result of the cutter fleet has risen by 113% since 2015, from 41 million to 88 million euros. That is the highest achieved net profit in 50 years. In addition, the wages of the crew rose in total by 46% to 106 million euros. Financially there is again room to invest in fleet renewal for example. However, major uncertainties such as the Brexit and preserving fish with pulse technique inhibit these developments.
