Positive start to turnover of ornamentals after record exports in 2017 |
23/02/2018 |
The export of ornamental plant products in 2017 amounted to 6 billion euros, which is 4% more than in 2016. Nevertheless, exports were 1% lower in December than in the same month in 2016. The decrease applied to both cut flowers and plants. These figures are reported by the VGB, based on data from Floridata. In January 2018, turnover for cut flowers grown in the Netherlands was almost 7% higher than a year before, when a cold spell in Europe caused demand to drop. Turnover of house plants increased by almost 18%, due to a more than 11% increase in the number of sold pieces and an almost 6% higher price. Turnover of garden plants was also higher in January. An increase in the supply of garden plants of almost 25% combined with a very limited decrease in the average price led to an increase in turnover of more than 20%. |
