The Dutch export of flowers and plants in the first quarter of 2018 increased by 1% compared with the first quarter of 2017. In January, exports were considerably higher than in 2017, but lower in February and March. These results were reported by the Dutch Association of Wholesalers in Floriculture Products (VGB), based on data from Floridata. Turnover figures from Floraholland for flowers and plants cultivated in the Netherlands show a similar reduction. In the first quarter of 2018, turnover for cut flowers is almost back at the 2017 level. After an increase in January, turnovers declined in February and recovered in March. The latter result is due to an early Easter. Turnovers for house plants decreased both in February (-1%) and in March (-8%). Consequently, turnovers in the first quarter were barely higher than in the first quarter of 2017. Garden-plant turnovers decreased by almost 25% compared with the first quarter of 2017, due to decreases in volume (-19%) and price (-7%). |
