Margins in sow farming and layer hen farming considerably lower than in 2017 |
03/12/2018 |
The results in pig farming offer a mixed picture of the sharp decline in piglet prices. For instance, the margins for fattening pigs were 2,700 euros higher in October than in 2017. On the other hand, the margins for sow farming fell by 46,000 euros to a negative level. The results for poultry farming were also lower in October than the previous year. While the monthly margins for layer hen farms decreased by more than 50,000 euros, for broiler chicks the decrease was limited to 1,300 euros. The monthly margins for dairy farming amounted to 15,800 euros in October 2018. Over the past months, the milk yields increased due to a higher milk price. However, this hardly affected the margins because feed costs increased at almost the same rate.
