Cut flower exports decrease, plant exports increase |
03/12/2018 |
The Dutch cut flower exports until October 2018 amounted to €3.2bn, which is 1.8% lower than in 2017 (Floridata). Conversely, the export of potted, bedding and garden plants in the same period was about €2bn, which is an increase of 2.7% over 2017. This growth is mainly due to bedding plants (in Spring) and garden plants. Auction turnover for cut flowers was restored in October, after a moderate summer as far as price setting and turnover were concerned. Average prices in October 2018 are now almost 3% higher than in the same month last year. However, the average price during the January-October 2018 period lags behind the same period in 2017 by 1.8%. House plants were priced 2.2% lower until October compared with the same period last year. This is offset by higher average prices for bedding plants (+4%) and garden plants (+4.3%).
