Poor to bad results in livestock farming at beginning of 2021

24/02/2021

The results of a standardised dairy farm in January 2021 amounted to 15,700 euros. This figure is 12% lower than in the same month last year. This means the moving average results of dairy farms in January 2021 have become further removed from the long-term average (-15%).

For fattening pig farms, the results continued to drop due to low revenues. In January 2021, the results for fattening pigs were 4,500 euros lower than in the same month last year, which is almost 30% lower due to a stronger decrease in revenues than in costs. For sow farming, the year also started off bad when the results in January dropped to a negative 4,500 euros.

For layer hen farms, the new year also started off poorly. In January, the results for layer hens amounted to 15,000 euros, which is more than a halving over January last year due to 11% lower egg prices. This means the results are clearly below the long-term average, leading to a negative income after deduction of other costs.

Compared to the same month last year, the results of poultry meat farms in January 2021 dropped by three-quarters to 4,800 euros. This is due to a strong decrease in revenues as a result of the corona crisis. The decrease in results means that after deduction of other costs, the income is negative.
