Auction turnover of ornamental products from the Netherlands, which was strongly depressed last year due to the corona crisis, is at a high level this year, according to figures provided by auction FloraHolland. Turnover of cut flowers up to and including August is 30% higher than in 2020. This increase consists of a price increase of almost 22% and a volume increase of 7%. Turnover is also considerably higher than the long-term average. For potted plants, however, turnover from June up to and including August was lower, but nevertheless still 20% higher up until August than last year, thanks to more items sold (11%) and a more than 8% higher average price. Turnover of garden plants is also well ahead that of 2020. Compared to 2020, especially the number of sold products increased (14%), but also the 5% higher average price contributed to the higher turnover. The growth rates are related to export developments: the cumulative export value of ornamental products up until August is 24% higher than in 2020, according to figures from Floridata, collected by commission of the Dutch Association of Wholesalers in Floricultural Products (VGB). |
