Horticultural sector grows in first five months of 2025 thanks to strong April |
09/07/2025 |
The Dutch flower and plant sector achieved solid growth in the first five months of 2025, with a 3.1% increase in export value compared to the same period in 2024. Auction turnover for cut flowers rose by nearly 4% year-on-year, despite a 7.5% drop in supply. Strong price development — partly due to the limited availability of tulips — more than compensated for the lower volumes.
April saw a clear upswing, driven by sunny weather and the shift in Easter-related sales. Houseplants showed a positive result that month, but turnover over the first five months of 2025 still ended up 0.4% below the level of a year earlier. Garden plants achieved the highest growth in turnover at 4.3%, supported by favourable weather conditions and sustained demand. In May, growth across all product groups levelled off. |
