Export value of ornamentals reaches record high in March The export value of ornamentals in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to almost 2 billion euros, which is an absolute record for this period. This appears from figures provided by Floridata, commissioned by the Dutch Association of Wholesalers in Floricultural Products (VGB). According to VGB, the record export value is mainly due to an increase in the purchasing price of flowers and plants as a result of the low market supply and because air transport costs were high. Easter also came early this year, which meant the additional boosting effect Easter has on the export of flowers and plants already partially took place in March. On balance, in March 2021 the export value increased considerably by 103%, which is more than a doubling. The total monthly export value of cut flowers, potted plants and garden plants has never been as high as in March of this year.
