Only a lower retail price for potatoes this period; beef considerably more expensive in 2024 |

Over December 2024 and January 2025, only the price of potatoes fell, dropping by 5%. The prices of bread, poultry meat and fresh fruit remained almost the same during this period. Furthermore, the prices of dairy and pork each rose by 2%, while the prices of eggs and beef each rose by 3%. CBS reports that food was on average 1.1% more expensive in 2024 than a year earlier. However, there are major differences between the products. Between January 2024 and January 2025, the price of beef rose by 11% and pork also became considerably more expensive, increasing by 6%. Farm prices for cattle are still rising, while those for pigs have been falling for over a year. The increase in the prices of bread, potatoes, milk, fresh fruit and poultry meat is also above the average increase of 1.1%. Only eggs and fresh vegetables experienced a price decrease of 4% each in 2024.
