Growth in horticulture slows in summer after strong spring |
08/10/2025 |
The Dutch flower and plant sector showed moderate growth in the first eight months of 2025. The export value of flowers and plants rose by 2% year-on-year, below the 3% growth reported after the first five months. Exports of cut flowers weakened in June and July but recovered slightly in August. Plant exports maintained relatively solid growth at 4.5%.
Auction turnover for cut flowers grown in the Netherlands reached just over €1.4bn, only 0.5% higher than a year earlier. In June, abundant supply due to favourable weather put pressure on prices and reduced turnover; July also saw weaker demand. August closed slightly above last year thanks to firmer prices. Houseplant turnover stayed virtually flat (+0.2%), while garden plants, grown in the Netherands, achieved 4.7% growth over eight months, supported by sunny summer weather |
