Increase in auction turnover of garden plants, horticultural export and other auction turnover lags behind |

The export of flowers and plants showed varying results in April and May. In April 2023, the export value decreased by 16% compared to 2022, but in May 2023, it recovered with a 6% increase. Overall, the export value of flowers and plants in 2023 is more than 4% below the level of the previous year. These figures are based on export data published by Floridata, commissioned by the Association of Wholesalers in Flower Nursery Products (VGB).
The auction turnover of domestically grown cut flowers in the first five months of 2023 decreased by almost 5% compared to the previous year, according to figures from the Royal Floraholland auction. This decline in turnover is mainly due to a decrease in the number of cut flowers sold, with a volume decrease of 7.5%. However, the average price of flowers increased slightly by almost 3%.
The turnover of domestically grown potted plants at the Royal Floraholland auction decreased by almost 16% in April, but significantly increased by almost 15% in May compared to the previous year. As a result, the cumulative deficit of potted plant turnover remained limited to about 1.5%. A decline in the number of units sold by over 4% was largely offset by a price increase of 3%.
