The cumulative export value of flowers and plants did not lag behind last year in the autumn months and remained 4% lower than in 2022. This while 2021 and 2022 went exceptionally well. The cumulative export value up to and including November of both cut flowers and plants was lower than a year earlier. The decline for cut flowers was 4.5%, for plants 3.1%. Compared to the long-term average, the export value was approximately 13% higher. These figures are based on export data published by Floridata, commissioned by the Association of Wholesalers in Flower Nursery Products (VGB).
The auction turnover of cut flowers grown in the Netherlands fell by more than 6% in the first 11 months of 2023 compared to a year earlier. This is evident from export data from the Royal Floraholland auction. The decline in turnover was mainly due to the reduction in the number of cut flowers sold (-5.2%). The average price of flowers also decreased slightly (-1%). There was a decline in turnover, especially in September and November. In October, turnover was almost equal to the level a year earlier.
The cumulative turnover of potted plants from Dutch soil at the Royal Floraholland auction has been fluctuating around the same level since mid-year as in 2022 (+0.6% in November). Until November 2023, the average price increase compared to 2022 was slightly higher than the volume decrease of 3.5%. In September and November, turnover was lower than a year earlier, mainly due to lower supply. In October, both supply and price were higher than in 2022, resulting in a 7% higher turnover.
The turnover of garden plants grown in the Netherlands at the Royal FloraHolland flower auction varied during the autumn months of 2023. Turnover was lower for two months than a year earlier (September and November), and higher for one month (October). In the first 11 months, turnover increased by 6.5% compared to a year earlier. With slightly lower quantities (-2%), the average price increased by 9%. |
