Margins in dairy farming decreasing but still above long-term average |
01/05/2018 |
Margins for a standardised dairy farm averaged 15,600 euros in March 2018. This is similar to the level of March 2017, but lower due to a decreasing milk price in the previous months. For other farm types in livestock farming the picture is mixed. For fattening pigs, margins in March were 6,700 euros, more than 2,000 euros less than in March 2017. For sow farms margins were 15,000 euros lower than in March last year, but above average at a level of 45,000 euros and higher than in the previous months. For laying hen farms with continued production, margins in the first quarter were exceptionally high: 168,000 euros above the 2017 level. Since November, the margins for broiler farms are above the long-term average. In March, margins were above 21,300 euros, which is 7,500 euros higher than in the same month last year. |
